KICLEI’s DIY Strategy provides a structured, three-phase approach to help communities organize, research, and take action on local governance issues. Each phase includes essential tools and resources to support effective advocacy.

💡 Here’s How You Can Get Involved:

📬 1. Share the Reports

Subscribe to both of our Substacks:

  • Gather 2030 – Civic engagement updates & weekly momentum

  • KICLEI – Action-ready reports for your councils

We write these reports for local government—so please gather your council’s contact emails and aim to forward one report per week. It's one of the easiest and most effective actions you can take.

👥 2. Attend Council Meetings

  • Show up in person if you can

  • Bring or wear KICLEI merch

  • Let them know the community is watching and engaged

📝 3. Communicate with Your Council

Have a local issue that concerns you?

  • Write to your councillors (yes, almost any issue is fair game)

  • Use ChatGPT or an online editor to polish your message—respect and clarity go a long way

🎥 4. Clip and Share Video

  • Learn to screen record or clip key council moments and delegations

  • Upload to the KICLEI Canada Facebook page or share with local media

  • Not sure how? A quick YouTube tutorial can get you started
